Healthy Teeth, Happy Mouth: Easy Tips to Improve the Health of Your Teeth

Do you suffer from anxiety about the condition of your teeth like 20% of Americans? Are you one of the 44% of the nation that has untreated tooth issues?

Dental care is an important issue that affects us our entire lives. Brushing our teeth is just one part of it.

Not sure what you can do to improve your smile? Check out these dental tips and tricks to take care of your mouth and make sure you have healthy teeth!

Always Brush

We know to brush our teeth. But once a day doesn't cut it; brush at least twice a day.

Brush once in the morning and once at night, preferably after breakfast and right before you go to bed. That way you can be sure you've cleared away any remaining food particles.

Floss Regularly

You dread that moment when the dentist asks you if you've flossed. Why not answer yes for once and surprise them?

Flossing stimulates gums, reduces inflammation, clears away plaque, and gets out food that's stuck in hard to reach areas. Flossing regularly promotes healthy teeth and gums.

Drink Tap Water

It's not glamorous and it's definitely not name brand. Drinking tap water, though, will keep your smile strong and shiny.

The reason is because most public water contains fluoride. Flouride toothpaste and the little bit that's in tap water help strengthen your teeth and reduces tooth decay.

Cut Down on Sugar

If you've got a sweet tooth, it might be dangerous for all of your teeth. Sugar corrodes tooth enamel and leads to cavities.

Stick to a low sugar diet to prevent cavities from forming.

Don't Forget Your Tongue

Your tongue is an important part of making sure your mouth and teeth are healthy. Bacteria builds up on it and affects the rest of your mouth; so brush your tongue daily.

Try using a tongue scraper to remove that harmful buildup. This is especially great for those who suffer from bad breath.

Get Crunchy

Fruits and vegetables with a little bite to them are the perfect choice to snack on. They're great for your teeth for many reasons.

Crunchy fruits and veggies are full of healthy fiber and also give your jaw a workout; it can also be self cleansing to your teeth. Get kids crunching at an early age to build healthy habits and help make sure they have healthy mouths.

Be Good to Your Brush

When was the last time you picked up a new toothbrush? If it's been a while, you need to change it ASAP.

Pick up a new brush every three to four months. Usually, you can even get a new one when you visit your dentist twice a year.

Want to keep your brush clean? Don't cover it after you use it.

Just rinse it and let it air dry. Covering it creates the perfect place for bacteria to grow.
