What a Curious Incident!!

Riveting. Compelling. Disturbing. Incredibly intense. Awakening. Powerful. And, most of all, aware!
‘The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time’ is a well-planned, gut-wrenchingly performed, and, well, curious, play to be thoroughly experienced.

Shown from the perspective of an autistic teen-age boy, the events portrayed are, to us, ordinary happenstances of real, everyday life.  To an autistic person, every sound and event is unimaginably amplified....leading us to the brink of understanding how they must suffer.

A dog is murdered; a mother dies; a father betrays.....events which spark reactions we cannot possibly ignore.

The staging of the Tony-winning play is surreal and all-encompassing....and assaults all senses, perhaps only a miniscule amount of that which autistic persons must suffer.  Excellently acted, beautifully staged, and audibly exceptional.

I loved this play, it brought me to tears, especially when I realized that the parents cannot possibly deliver on all their promises, but make them to soothe and quiet the rampage that is an autistic person’s inner psyche.  But you should know that the main character, Christopher, is a determined and brilliant person who grasps the elemental idea that he must learn to cope if he is to survive in our world.

I must also commend the AT&TPAC group for providing live Chatback opportunities after each performance, and inviting us to participate in a further learning experience.  Like the show, these expert-led conversations will focus on learning differences, adolescence, and family. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time won five Tony Awards® including Best Play and is based on the novel by Mark Haddon.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time in the Winspear Opera House, is presented from January 11-22, 2017.
