West Side Story Stars Speak Out!!!

SEAN EWING as Bernardo:

What excites you the most about playing Bernardo?
Being able to portray the struggle of what it is to live the American dream. This has been and always will be the struggle. The interesting thing about this is that the shows message has, and always will be prevalent in our world.

Why should people see West Side Story?
The music takes the audience on whirlwind of a ride and transports you to an era that mirrors what we deal with today. It's an important message for all ages, and truly just a wonderful story.

Sean's Broadway credits include the revival of West Side Story and Amazing Grace. He was nominated for a Helen Hayes Award in 2016 for his portrayal of "Bernardo" at Signature Theatre.

CASSIDY STONER as Anita:

Why do you think West Side Story still speaks to audiences 60 years after its premiere?
The message at the heart of West Side Story is, I believe, universal to all people: In a world filled with hate, prejudice, and violence; change can only occur when we lead with love.

What do you find is the most challenging part of your character?
Anita's emotional arch throughout the show is so overwhelmingly rich and deep. As an actress, it's a complicated roller coaster to go on. In Act 1, the audience sees her fiery spirit, her adoration for life in America, and her unwavering passion for Bernardo. By Act 2, all of that is stripped away, and her American Dream has been poisoned. Finding a way to bridge those ends of the spectrum can be pretty intimidating.

Cassidy is a recent graduate of Pace University. West Side Story is among her favorite theatre credits, which also include The Pajama Game and A Chorus Line.

The worlds greatest love story takes to the streets in this landmark Tony® Award-winning Broadway musical. Shakespeares Romeo and Juliet is transported to modern-day New York City, as two young, idealistic lovers find themselves caught between warring street gangs: the American Jets and the Puerto Rican Sharks. Their struggle to survive in a world of hate, violence and prejudice is one of the most innovative, heart-wrenching and relevant musical dramas of our time. From the first notes to the final breath, West Side Storys powerful and poignant story will captivate audiences. This show is suitable for most audiences.
