Building Better Caregivers Workshop Series - 6 weekly sessions.

The Building Better Caregivers Workshop Series is structured as a six-week program, 2.5 hours per week.  It was originally developed by Stanford University and The US Department of Veteran Affairs for family members and informal caregivers who take care of veterans or are veterans with traumatic brain injury (TBI), post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), dementia, or diagnosed memory impairment.   However, it is open to ANY caregiver.

Some of the topics covered in the workshop include: 

  • Caregiver stress
  • Dealing with difficult care partner behaviors
  • Getting help
  • Making decisions about treatment, housing, etc.
  • Communicating effectively with family, friends, and health professionals
  • Dealing with caregiver and care partner difficult emotions
  • Planning for future needs
  • Legal issues related to caregiving

The North Central Texas Area Agency on Aging is offering this workshop series on six Wednesday's April 10 – May 15, 2019.  Each class will be 2 1/2 hours from 8:30 am – 11:30 am.  The class is limited to 16 participants.  The location is the Denton Senior Center, 509 N. Bell Avenue, Denton, TX  76209.  There is no charge for any of the sessions.

The Area Agency on Aging also can offer some respite funding for those caregivers who qualify.
